In southern Vietnam, Dong Nai is targeting the development of robust features fueling tourism potential in the province. Tourist inflow from both domestic and international markets is thoroughly planned with the cultural and natural resources of the area. Dong Nai’s Rich Tourism Potential

Dong Nai boasts a wide range of cultural and natural resources that make it a unique destination for travellers. Some of the province’s key attractions include Bu Gia Map National Park, Sac Mangrove Forest in Nhon Trach, and the S’tieng Ethnic Cultural Reserve in Bom Bo. The Dong Nai Cultural and Nature Reserve, which spans over 100,000 hectares, was designated as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2011, showcasing the region’s environmental significance.

Dong Nai’s diverse ethnic communities also contribute to the region’s cultural richness, with various festivals and traditional activities drawing tourists year-round. These include the S’tieng rain-praying ritual, M’nong new rice celebration, Khmer Chol Chnam Thmay, and the Dolta Festival. Local craft villages, where visitors can experience traditional practices like brocade weaving and stone xylophone performances, also add to the province’s charm.

Prioritising Investment in Tourism Infrastructure

The province is now focusing on improving its tourism infrastructure to make travel more accessible and enjoyable for visitors. In Nha Bich commune, significant public investment is being directed towards eco-agriculture tourism, particularly in areas around Phuoc Hoa Lake. This initiative is closely tied to the One Commune One Product (OCOP) programme, which supports the development of local tourism businesses and promotes community-based, cultural, and experiential tourism. The goal is to offer a more immersive travel experience that showcases the province’s natural beauty and ethnic traditions.

Furthermore, Bom Bo commune is prioritising infrastructure development to connect its national historic site with other tourist destinations and provincial roads. The commune plans to improve roads, parking areas, and public facilities, ensuring that tourists can easily access its most important sites.

Turning Cultural Heritage Into Economic Value

Experts have stressed the importance of converting cultural and scenic sites into valuable tourism assets. Professor Phan Thi Thu Hien from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University – HCM City, has highlighted that tourism can be a powerful tool for turning cultural resources into economic and social value for local communities. To make this transformation possible, Dong Nai is calling for scientific investment and strategic financial support for conservation and promotion efforts.

The province is also actively encouraging private and public sector investment in key tourist zones and infrastructure projects. Among the notable investments are plans for a high-end resort complex near Tri An Lake, a Safari park spanning 412 hectares, and adventure tourism areas focused on outdoor activities such as trekking and aerial sports. Additionally, a wildlife rescue and conservation centre covering 240 hectares is also in the pipeline, further promoting eco-tourism and conservation efforts.

Dong Nai’s focus on sustainable tourism aims to balance development with environmental protection. The province plans to integrate cultural preservation with tourism growth by prioritising key infrastructure projects such as transportation networks, boat piers, and improved access to tourist areas. The ongoing efforts to develop 51 tourism sites and 37 forest and lake exploration routes highlight Dong Nai’s commitment to creating diverse tourism experiences that tap into its rich biodiversity. These initiatives are set to attract more visitors who are interested in eco-tourism, adventure tourism, and cultural experiences, all while maintaining the region’s commitment to sustainable growth.
