The fight against cancer is a long and difficult road that takes a toll on both the patients and their loved ones. But some people fight against all the odds to survive and live their lives to the fullest. Speaking in a similar vein, a woman named Hannah was diagnosed with stage 4 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a devastating blood cancer, shortly after her engagement a few years ago.
The prognosis was devastating, but she chose to fight with hope, grit, and dreams that extended far beyond hospital walls. While enduring gruelling rounds of chemotherapy, she and her fiancé, Charlie, planned trips to stay upbeat.
Charlie himself survived a sudden cardiac arrest when he was just 15. He had been dead for 22 minutes due to the rare genetic heart condition. But he miraculously survived, and today he lives with a defibrillator and a determination to embrace every day.
He once promised that when she gets recovered, they would travel to the Turkish city of Cappadocia to witness the famed hot air balloons. And on one of their hopeful getaways, doctors delivered astonishing news—Hannah’s cancer was gone.
What started as a coping mechanism during cancer recovery then turned into a full-time career, with the couple now sharing every moment online.
In a video on Instagram, they explained about how things started. The duo stated, “This all started as a way to find some light in the middle of absolute chaos. Charlie had a cardiac arrest when he was 15. I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer at 22, and when you go through something like that, your whole perspective shifts.”
With no fancy equipment like big cameras or a tripod, they began recording travel experiences in just an iPhone between hospital appointments. “But what we found was something we never expected, a community that genuinely cared. And somehow, we’ve turned it into a job. But it never really feels like one, because we’re still just two people filming our life and hoping it encourages someone else and makes them feel a little more alive,” they said.
Today, they’ve documented journeys through 50 countries and 5 continents, travelled on £5 flights, ticked off bucket list moments, and built a house completely from scratch.
From skydiving in Dubai and hanging out of a helicopter above NYC to hiking Machu Picchu and chasing the Northern Lights in Iceland, their bucket list moments speak volumes about their adventures. They have even attended a Coldplay concert!
In the clip, they further shared that, “We’ve never been big on ‘stuff,’ no luxury watches, no designer bags, and definitely no matching his and hers anything. Instead, we celebrate milestones somewhere new, doing something we’ll talk about forever,” they said.
Their blog and social media channels are filled with more than stunning destinations. They open up about cancer scans, IVF struggles, and the emotional highs and lows of life after near-death experiences. Through it all, Hannah and Charlie have also inspired countless others to donate blood, support cancer patients, and embrace life.
