Ten years ago, a man accidentally flew TikToker Zena (@zenawoz) to Hawaii, thinking she was another woman. So, it all started when she flew to Hawaii herself for work for a yoga festival. While she was there, she met a guy who was really cute and funny. He was a professional surf photographer.
He ended up spending the night in her hotel room, and they got breakfast in bed the next day. It was a fun little travel fling. She went home and didn’t think much of it. Over the course of the next 10 years, they contacted each other a couple of times.
Two years later, he texted her, saying that he was in L.A. and asked if she wanted to hang out. She said she couldn’t because she was seeing someone else at the time.
A few years after that, she got tipsy at a friend’s bridal shower and texted him. Nothing big came of it. Then, in January of last year, she received a text from him again.
She was in Bali and was about to attend a personal therapy retreat where no cell phones were allowed. In the text, he addressed her as “Space Fox” and asked if she was in Japan.
She thought it was weird that he knew she was in Asia. She mentioned that she might be going back to Hawaii for work later in the year, so they could possibly meet up.
A month later, she heard from him again. He sent her a flight itinerary that he had made to fly her from L.A. to Oahu for the weekend. She thanked him for the offer but told him that she had to work.
He was persistent about flying her out. She went to bed very conflicted. Sure enough, he followed up with her again the next day. Zena’s boss encouraged her to embark on this experience, so she agreed to go to Hawaii.
So, she packed up and hopped on the plane. When the plane landed, he texted her, saying he was stuck in traffic. She waited for him on the curb.

He arrived in his truck and greeted her warmly. He told her it was great to finally meet her, which threw her for a loop. She informed him that they had met before.
He froze at the car door, looked her up and down, and went pale. He was really freaked out, so she decided to refresh his memory. He remembered the time they spent together, but was still incredibly confused.
That’s when it clicked for both of them. He had flown the wrong girl to Hawaii. They both felt absolutely humiliated by this turn of events.
They had to get out of the airport, so they started driving back to his place to figure out the whole situation. He explained that he had matched with another girl named Zena on a dating app who was an astronaut. Astronaut Zena had blonde hair and blue eyes, so she looked nothing like her.
“This is a dumb situation, but it’s clearly an honest mistake, so I’m not mad because it’s clearly not malicious,” said Zena. “He’s just super embarrassed.”
When they arrived at his studio apartment, they sat down to have the sushi and drinks he had prepared. By then, they were laughing about the mix-up.
After dinner, she wanted to take a shower. But when she stepped into the bathroom, it was completely dirty and disgusting. Not only was there clutter everywhere, but the tub and shower curtains were colors that no one would ever want to see.
Witnessing that bathroom was a total dealbreaker. There was no way to salvage the situation after that. She was more upset by the bathroom than the whole mix-up.
“He thought he was inviting an astronaut to come and stay with him,” said Zena. “I was like, you can’t have an astronaut shower in this shower.”
“They are used to sterile environments. Okay, like astronaut Zena probably has a really hygienic, clean bathroom. I can’t imagine any astronaut showering in something like this. So, I really took one for the team, I think.”
She looked for any nearby hotels, but the closest one was sold out. She realized she had no choice but to stay the night with him. They climbed up to the sleeping loft area to watch a movie. He never made a move on her, and they ended up falling asleep.
The next morning, she texted her friends and told them what happened. When he woke up, she told him that she was leaving because it was all just way too weird. He offered to drive her to a hotel, and they chatted in the car about their dating lives.
Overall, he was super sweet about the situation, and she wished him luck with astronaut Zena.
